Downloads
Game client only. These are the player builds — you point one at a server and play. Running your own server is a separate download and isn’t offered here.
Running it
On Windows, unzip anywhere and run aow.exe. On Linux, unpack with
tar xzf AoW2D-Client-0.3.050d7eff04-linux64.tar.gz and run ./aow — the
archive carries the execute bit, so there is nothing to chmod.
Nothing is installed and nothing is written outside the folder you unpack into — delete the folder and it is gone.
Leave room on disk. The download is small but it unpacks to roughly 2.3 GB, because the artwork is stored uncompressed — pixel art run through texture compression loses exactly the flat colour and hard edges it is made of, so it is kept whole. It compresses well for the trip and then unfolds.
The client connects to warcry.actofwar.com on port
7777. There is nothing to configure.
If the client refuses to log in
A client older than the server is turned away at the login screen with a sentence saying so, rather than connecting and going quietly wrong. That is the intended behaviour and the fix is always the same: download the version above. Older clients are not kept here.
